Overview

The 17 feet tall statue of Buddha from the 13th century  was worshipped as Buddha Terracotta Statue for several  decades. The story has it, once the magnificent statue was being transported for repair in a heavy downpour, when the clay melted away, only to make known  to the world about  a 5.5 ton Golden Buddha (83% composed of gold ) inside the clay structure. This incident reaffirmed many of the followers’ belief and every day, hundreds of visitors flock to the Golden Buddha temple, to seek their inner brightness and connect with their true self. The Wat Traimit Temple which is home to the Golden Buddha  is a gateway to the Chinatown in Bangkok. There is a museum in the three-tier temple dedicated to Chinese heritage which explores the history and culture of Chinese immigrants in Thailand.

Wat Pho or popularly known as The Reclining Buddha built in 1832 is the one of oldest temples of Thailand. The temple’s name roots from the Bodhi tree at Bodh Gaya, India where Buddha attained enlightenment.  Besides, the reclining Buddha signifies entering into the stage of Nirvana. The temple has also nurtured the education and practice  of traditional Thai massage and one can experience these relaxing and healing practices when they visit it.

Wat Benchamabophit or the Marble temple was built by Prince Narisara who was half brother of King Rama V. The Carrara Italian marbles give the temple its greyish -white colour and  to the two singhas (lions) which decorated its entrance. Like the other two temples, cross beams are made of gold and lacquer.
